Eastern Sierras May 2010

EASTERN SIERRAS - May 3-6, 2010

Seventeen of us had an action-packed, fun-filled adventure to the Eastern Sierras. We stopped at the Mother Road Museum on Route 66 and Randsburg on our way to Lone Pine for Night 1. We awoke to the sun highlighting the snow-capped mountains in front of our motel. Day 2 should have started with Bodie, but the road in had not been plowed yet. So we shifted gears and headed to Mono Lake for fabulous vistas and amazing photo ops with the tufas. We had some time at Laws Railroad Museum before settling in for the night in Bishop. Day 3 started with a very interesting stop at Manzanar, the Japanese Internment Camp, and Convict Lake. Then it was on to Death Valley. We stopped at Father Crowley Vista, Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, Scotty’s Castle, and the Harmony Borax Works before checking in to the Furnace Creek Ranch. Our BBQ dinner was delicious -- and more than we could eat. Before heading home on Day 4, we stopped at Zabriskie Point for the most incredible views in Death Valley.
